AB&L was contacted by the biology department of a major university for assistance in producing a seed trap needed to carry out a multi-institution research project. Full drawings were provided and cost estimates given, but upon analyzing the design, an alternative method of sewing the item was discovered that saved the customer over 23% in labor to produce the seed traps. Further, through our contacts, we were able to locate a fabric jobber with enough suitable material to meet the customer’s needs at a savings of over 81%. The resulting combination savings for material and labor made the research project feasible; without these savings, the project could not have been funded due to budget constraints.
